Description: The mindSHIFT Legal Services Group will describe the new architecture in Exchange 2007 that includes the new server roles and topology, improved performance and reliability metrics with the Windows 64bit OS and modified Exchange 2007 architecture and we will demo and describe the new management interfaces (Exchange 2007 Management Console and the Exchange 2007 Power Shell) as well as the new features being emphasized and the old features being de-emphasized or removed.
We will discuss the preparation tasks for upgrading to Exchange 2007, the Active Directory dependencies as well as the separation of management from AD, the server requirements for installing Exchange 2007, and we will describe the many new clustering and high availability features.
From the user perspective we will describe the new calendaring improvements, resource mailbox components, full content index and search benefits with Outlook 2007 as well as the new and improved Outlook WEB Access.
Additional topics may include Hub Transport & Edge Transport Rules and capabilities, Client Access Server configuration options, licensing changes, Administrative Role assignments, maintenance tools, third party replication products and the new Anti Spam/Messaging Security features.
Presenters: Matthew S. Fredette, Managing Director, Senior Systems Engineer - Boston Office
Matthew Fredette is the Managing Director of the Boston office of mindSHIFT Legal Services. He has a BS in Physics from the State University of New York at Oswego and attended graduate studies in Systems Engineering at Boston University. Matt has spent 14 years working in systems integration for law firms and has worked on a multitude of technology projects including windows desktop design and conversions, back end server and OS system upgrades, document management system design and implementation, litigation support systems, Internet edge high availability and security, LAN/WAN infrastructure design, remote access infrastructure solutions, data center design and business continuity implementations, storage area network architectures plus Exchange email messaging installations, upgrades, migrations and archiving solutions.
Prior to opening the Boston office for the Union Square Technology Group LLC in 2001 (now mindSHIFT Legal), Matt held several senior engineering and director level positions at LAN Systems Inc. from 1993 through 1999. While located in New York City prior to moving to Boston, Matt served as the lead system architect on many large scale international projects for top 10 firms such as White & Case LLP and Shearman & Sterling LLP. He also worked for many years on technology implementation projects for top 50 firms such as Brown & Wood LLP, Weil Gotshal & Manges LLP, Clifford Chance LLP, Fried Frank Harris Shriver & Jacobson LLP, Kelly Drye & Warren LLP, Chadbourne & Park LLP and Proskauer Rose LLP.
In the Boston area Matt has done professional consulting services and project related work for over 30 Law firms since 2001.
Luis Calderon, Senior Systems Engineer - Boston Office
Luis Calderon has a degree in Information Science from Northeastern University, College of Computer Science. Luis joined mindSHIFT Legal in late 2005 after first working as a sub-contractor for many years with the Union Square Technology Group LLC and mindSHIFT Legal in the Boston area. Prior to joining mindSHIFT, Luis co-founded 1 Point Networks in 2001 which had been well known for IT professional services, integration and consulting in the Boston area targeting small-to-medium size companies across several vertical markets. He has over 11 years experience in the IT industry.
Luis has a multitude of certifications with vendors such as Cisco, HP, Lotus Notes, Microsoft, Nortel, Citrix, Novell, RSA, NetAPP, Equallogic, vmWware (ESX Enterprise), Neverfail, XOSoft, Riverbed, Juniper, Sonic Wall and Trend Micro.
Since joining mindSHIFT Legal in late 2005, Luis has been instrumental in the growth, reputation, success and expansion of the Boston office. He recently represented mindSHIFT as the lead technology engineer on the Gadsby Hannah LLP and McCarter English LLP firm merger and was instrumental in the major phases of the firm merger between Edwards Angell LLP and Palmer & Dodge LLP.
Luis has been focusing his expertise in several areas for mindSHIFT Legal including Microsoft Exchange, Active Directory, SAN and iSCSI storage architectures, vmWare and virtualized infrastructures, disaster recovery, SAN and host based replication technologies, Cisco infrastructure design, network management solutions and system backup and recovery platforms including tape-less backup and vaulting solutions.
